I am a computer scientist in the IT Artificial Intelligence team at UCB Pharma where I work on computer vision problems in the medical imaging domain.
I am also a third-year PhD student at the ESAT/PSI department of the KU Leuven spending two days per week in the Medical Imaging Research Center at the University Hospitals Leuven.
My current research focuses on robust object detection in 3D images, shape-aware image segmentation and understanding how different loss terms influence what CNNs learn.
In my free time, I love reading books on science and history, coach a youth soccer team, play some piano and last but not least enjoy life with my family & friends.
Master in Engineering, 2005
KU Leuven
I am currently working on the Bonebot research project that aims at opportunistically screening spine-containing CT images for osteoporotic vertebral fractures to support the early detection of patients with osteoporosis and avoid secondary fractures.
During my long summer break I decided to start writing about my learnings on this website. Although I hope that my ramblings are helpful for others, I have to admit that my motivations to do so are selfish because: you truly master a new concept when you are able to explain it succinctly in your own words I have enjoyed reading over 85 papers in the last 2 years but lack an easy way to revisit my summary learnings from these efforts it's time to practise my English writing skills a bit Now that you know why I am adding more online content let's spend a minute to talk about what I intend to write about.
